MOVIE: The Letter (1940)
Written by: W.Somerset Maugham
Screenplay by : L Howard Koch
Directed by : William Wyler
Bette Davis, Herbert Marshall, James Stephenson
The plot is simple. The location is exotic.
Leslie Crosbie (Davis) is the wife of rubber plantation administrator, Robert Crosbie (Marshall). One night when he is away at a neighbouring plantation, Leslie shoots a man to death. The story she tells both her husband and her lawyer (Stephenson) is that this man tried to force himself on her.
But, then there is this little problem of a letter written to the slain man, in Leslie’s own handwriting
The opening is explosive (in more that one way!) I’m sure you’ll agree
